Review: Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers - Lightning Collection Mighty Morphin Red Ranger

Euya! Finally, wave three! It came out at the end of last year. I had preordered it on Amazon and HasbroPulse but the Pulse orders showed up faster but I wasn't able to cancel my Red Ranger pre-order on Amazon so now I've got two! I'm not complaining tho haha. I'm pleased with this release and I'm surprised it wasn't a part of the first wave. So far, each wave has had a core Mighty Morphin' Ranger. Wave 1 had the White Ranger, Wave 2 had the Pink Ranger, the 3rd had the Red Ranger and the most recent wave that isn't out yet has the Yellow Ranger slated for release in March. I can't wait and I'm so excited to see the teams coming together. I hope Beast Morphers Yellow and Silver come out soon to have a full team. Let's get to it!

Review: Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers - Walgreens Exclusive Dragon Shield (Armored) Black Ranger Lightning Collection Hasbro

The Walgreens Exclusive Black Ranger! This recently started showing up in the U.S. but has been out overseas for a couple months now. I got mine a while ago through Comics & Cocktails, based in the UK. I got him and the Psycho Blue at about 20 pounds each plus 20 shipping... however! I didn't realize it was going to be in pounds so I paid about $80 USD. Yeah... well I was pretty happy with the one I received and it's nice to have this all american figure since it's based on Zack from the season finale of the first season, "An Oyster Stew." That used footage that is referred to as "Zyu2" footage since it was MMPR Original footage but instead of being recorded in the U.S., it was recorded by Toei in Japan which explains the quality of the footage and suits, especially the armor. Personally I haven't seen this figure in person yet so I'll probably pick one up if I see another.

Review: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Power Rangers Dino Thunder - Hasbro Lightning Collection Fighting Spirit Green Ranger and Putty 2-Pack

Something else that has been out for a while now is the 2-pack with the Putty and the Green Ranger which was a nice surprise. A lot of people were slightly upset that the Putty was in this set because he is an army building figure. As for the Green Ranger, it's not your typical Green Ranger since this is from an episode of Power Rangers Dino Thunder called "Fighting Spirit" where Tommy has to fight his previous forms: Zeo Ranger 1, the White Ranger, and the Green Ranger but with a white holster (on the wrong side) and a silver streak on the helmet. But enough about that, I got this set as soon as someone spotted it at GameStop, I went to a couple and one in a mall near my house said that they'd be receiving one soon so I gave my number and they called me. I also ordered one online just in case I didn't get one and in the even that I'd have an extra Putty and Green Ranger. 

Review: Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers - Hasbro Lightning Collection Mighty Morphin Pink Ranger

Oh the Pink Ranger, it took so long for me to find this one, I searched all over a small portion of New Jersey for about a month, it was pretty easy to find the rest of the wave. I found the Magna Defender, Beast Morphers Red and Gold Rangers within a week. My Wal-Mart pre-order kept getting pushed back so I took matters into my own hands and spent about 3 hours going through different Walgreens, it wasn't until I went to a Walgreens in Route 206 that I found one. The face on Kimberly was pretty good but the visor was alright. It's been a long time coming, especially since I found this figure at the beginning of September.

Review: Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers/Power Rangers Zeo - Hasbro Lightning Collection Armored Red Ranger and Zeo Gold Ranger Jason 2-Pack (San Diego Comic Con Exclusive)

Okay, so I didn't go to San Diego Comic Con so how did I get this set? Did I pay outrageous prices online for this? I almost did! And I thought that $110 for this set is fair since the set itself is $49.99 and that doesn't take into account travel, hotel, and the ticket for the event so suddenly anything over the original price isn't so outrageous. Thankfully I didn't have to do that, I did however, pay the Hasbro Pulse Premium Membership for about $50-$60 to buy this but I didn't just get this set, otherwise it would have been fine just getting this through eBay. I also got the Marvel Legends 80th Anniversary Vintage Series Hulk, the Collector and Grandmaster 2-pack, the Luke Skywalker 3-pack, and the Sith Trooper, so I got a pretty good deal honestly. I did miss the Boba Fett because... I forgot honestly and I think I'll be okay without it since I care about accurate live action appearances anyway, but it will haunt my completionist side forever... I might get it in the future but not anytime soon. Anyway, I got standard shipping and it came within a couple days after I purchased it. I know a lot of people were upset that this set sold out as quickly as it did but it's to be expected, I consider myself lucky that I did get this since it sold out within minutes!

Review: Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers - Hasbro Lightning Collection Goldar (GameStop Exclusive)

Goldar! Rita's right hand man! Finally a good representation of a very iconic Sentai and Power Ranger's villain. Goldar is the adaptation of Grifforzer from the 16th season of Super Sentai, Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger where he looked pretty silly honestly, the sculpted face on this figure looks a lot more intimidating. I always saw him as more of a canine-like creature, like a wolf but I guess I see the flying monkey inspiration in the design. This figure was a surprise and a lot of people were disappointed that it was an exclusive figure for such a popular character. This one was a GameStop exclusive, and there were some issues regarding his release. He was supposed to be released around mid-August, about August 10th, but a lot of people started receiving theirs before then. For others, like myself, had their orders cancelled for some reason (mine said there was an issue with the payment but I doubt that). I had to go to the store personally, a lot of them told me that the figure wasn't to be released until October which the website clearly contradicted, and then finally at one of them they let me order one from the store and I finally received it.

Review: Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers - Bandai of America Legacy Collection Armored Red Ranger (GameStop Exclusive)

The last release from Bandai of America for the Legacy Collection line, the Armored Red Ranger, and honestly, it wasn't very expected. Especially since a bunch of figures were cancelled like the other remaining Psycho Rangers, the Thunder Rangers from Power Rangers Ninja Storm, the Silver Space Ranger, and all of the Ninja Steel Rangers. I guess it wasn't that surprising since all of these parts are re-used but it's not a bad figure considering that the two figures used to make this were pretty good on their own. The two being the Red and Green Mighty Morphin Rangers from the first wave. I had pre-ordered, him on the GameStop website when he was listed, thanks to Tokunation for letting me know (I just check the website regularly). I didn't end up getting the online order but I did buy it in store since I saw it there before my pre-order shipped so that's lame when you pay extra to get the figure shipping when it re-releases. Either way, let's get to the figure.

Review: Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers - Bandai Legacy Collection Metallic Red, Black, Blue, Yellow, Pink Rangers

Last month I reviewed the Legacy Collection Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and the Build-a-Dino Megazord. And you saw that instead of their individual weapons they came with pieces to build the Dino Megazord. Well, they re-released the figures but not quite the same, if anything they improved them by giving them the "Metallic" treatment. They're not metallic by any means, they're actually just translucent but it works, it gives it an extra sheen which is neat. The additional accessory is their individual Power Weapons and they fix a couple things from the previous releases.

Review: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - Lightning Collection Lord Zedd

While they took the White Ranger suit as well as the villains, mecha and some weapons from the 17th Season of Super Sentai, Gosei Sentai Dairanger from Japan, there was one new creation that was exclusive to Power Rangers. Lord Zedd who ended up taking over the role of big bad from Rita Repulsa. He had a pretty amazing design, intimidating and something completely different from Power Rangers and Super Sentai. He reminded me a little bit of Bane because of the tubes that he had around his body. I always liked the fleshy red color that they used for the skin. I was surprised to see that Hasbro was going to release him in wave one! We've had Lord Zedd figures before but none like this. It's a good addition to a line of figures that has had too many Rangers and not enough villains for them to fight against.

Review: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - Legacy Collection White Ranger

The White Ranger is another one of those very incredibly popular Rangers and of course this is also Tommy's suit in season 2 and 3 of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The suit never really fit in with the other suits for some reason, but I did get used to it. There's a lot to say about this costume especially with the sixth Ranger trends that it followed. I also got this figure for $5 at a closing Wal-Mart from about... 2 years ago? There's very few issues I have with this figure honestly.

Review: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - Legacy Collection Green Ranger

Euya! So the Green Ranger is probably one of the coolest and most iconic designs in Power Rangers. Even in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger he was the first official Sixth Ranger that was added to a team and it started a trend. Kibaranger and King Ranger or the White and Gold Ranger had the basic design aesthetic of a Sixth Ranger which was the slight variation of the team suit with armor. This figure doesn't have a piece for the Megazord which is a shame, he could have included a shield or the Power Sword but he's still a nice figure.

Review: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - Legacy Collection Build-A-Megazord Dino Megazord // Red, Black, Blue, Yellow, Pink Rangers

Collector figures aren't anything new to the Power Rangers series, however this was quite the treat when they came out. This was the most articulated and affordable figures to come out for the Power Rangers series. S.H. Figuarts were out in Japan and those were premium figures, about $40+ per figure if you were lucky. The best we had in the early 2010s were the Armored Might figures, which for about $16 you got a very articulated Ranger and a bunch of accessories but they only made a couple characters for that one unfortunately. It had a lot of potential, the downside to those were that they were very beefed up, incredibly muscular which wasn't accurate to the show. Eventually the Legacy Collection 6.5" figures were released and they were incredible! They were going to be released in waves, not entire teams at once. So the MMPR and Ninja Storm Rangers released first. Red, Blue, and Yellow for Ninja Storm, and Red and Green for Mighty Morphin. I passed on these and boy did I regret that later. I bought the White Ranger and Yellow along with Ninja Storm Yellow and Blue when a Wal-Mart near me closed down so they were $5 a piece. After that I needed to have the rest. I eventually completed the MMPR team about 2 years after Wal-Mart closed and I got the movie figures once Toys R Us closed. Let's get to the review!

Mighty Morphin Bootleg Rangers - Super Mighty Force! Red, Black and Green!

MMPR on a budget

Power Rangers toys are sold in many places, including 99¢ stores. You can never have too much MMPR, these are based on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, or at least the paint job is. I got these at one of the shops in the Mall, Menlo Park Mall specifically. I've always wanted to go there since they have a pretty good selection of bootleg toys. They used to be much more common (around me) around 10 years ago and recently bootlegs or knock-offs of "decent" quality is becoming harder to find. I wasn't planning on getting these but at $1.50 or $1.49 I figured why not. This is only half of the line. They didn't have Blue, Yellow and Purple but this will do for now.
