This set is probably on clearance at this point, which is strange because it's one of the nicer of the ones that have been released with Crossbones. This was the first of the sets that I found in person. I was at a Target walking around and I found it just sitting there and didn't think much of it. Thankfully I waited and got it for $20.
We're almost done with the Build-a-Picture!
And of course, it's no. 9 in the series.
The Captain America body has been reused countless times it's outdated at this point.
The paint however is amazing, it's dark and it's accurate to how it appears in the movie. It's painted with incredible detail and the amount of shading throughout the figure. Seriously, it's one of the best of the Marvel Legends I own, the most recent Cap is a bit of a downgrade though... we'll talk about that later but this one is the best.
The head looks a little off on mine but it does resemble Chris Evans, the "helmet" is a separate piece that is glued on, mine is a little off as you can see. Especially in the back, there's a big ugly gap that bothers me so much I'm considering getting another set.
The shield is the same ol' thing but the paint is metallic in the front.
The straps are set so you just have to thread the hand through the straps. He can't carry this shield on his back like the 2012 Avengers' Captain America but it does look fantastic.
All of the detail is sculpted on, the shield does feel fragile and very light, the paint is deceiving, it makes me thing it's die-cast because of the way it looks.
Articulation is good, the posture doesn't look good but it isn't very restricted. The boot swivel can get annoying because it's so loose.
The best thing about this set is the Steve Rogers head, it looks a lot like Chris Evans, the face printing technology is spot on, this is probably the most accurate head in a Marvel Legends.
Seriously, this is a great step forward compared to the Thanos BAF Captain America...
As for Crossbones, it's incredible how detailed it is. I'm having a hard time figuring out what other figure has this amount of detail that is painted.
The straps and attachments that he has throughout his uniform is impressive, there's so much attention to detail that wasn't left out. It does have a downside, it can get in the way of certain poses. The vest is a little clunky and doesn't let him hang his arms naturally.
The mast looks nothing like it does in the comics which is accurate to the film, the paint makes it looks like his helmet is made out of metal and the details are scratched on.
The gauntlets have an impressive amount of detail, it's something you need to see in person in order to appreciate.
Unfortunately they're the only gauntlets he has and doesn't have an attachable dagger to recreate some other scenes in the movie, but what more could I ask for? Not much honestly. The only thing is that the elbows are more restricted with the gauntlets. The hands don't grip them very well, they do come off but with a price. You have to fiddle around so you can turn the wrist with him still holding the gauntlets.
It's refreshing to see something that isn't just a repaint, although Cap is an amazing repaint the body doesn't do the headsculpt justice.
You do get one more accessory for Crossbones and that is the Brock Rumlow headsculpt.
Which has a great likeness to Frank Grillo in his deformed face makeup, here he has a more stoic look to him which suits the figure.
If I go get that extra set of two I'll be more than happy displaying these two with both heads on.
Now that we're getting closer to the last set and some Endgame figures I'll rank these sets from my least favorite to my favorite set. And if you haven't watched Endgame yet, I'd recommend staying off social media because there's already a buttload of spoilers everywhere. I couldn't wait so I tried watching it before I went to D.C. so I didn't get any spoilers and it worked according to plan!
