Review: Power Rangers In Space - GameStop Exclusive Psycho Blue Ranger Hasbro Lightning Collection

This was another figure that I got from the U.K., the other one was the Dragon Shield Black Ranger from a couple months ago. They were a part of the same order but I'm just really bad about getting to these on time. So here we are, months later after all the hype on this figure is over and I feel extra bad since this figure is everywhere and will probably be on clearance in a couple months along with most of the line which is pretty sad. Unfortunately Power Rangers, and to a lesser extent Super Sentai and most Tokusatsu properties aren't popular anymore or at the moment. I wish they were but that isn't the case. As for the character, I do remember watching Power Rangers In Space, I don't know if it was a rerun or if it was a part of Jetix's Power Rangers Generations series that they had. I remember seeing the Psycho Rangers and thinking that they looked so cool! They had pretty awesome designs and I didn't realize until recently that they all shared the exact same design, give or take the male and female proportions, but they were nearly identical. Which is kinda weird since even the Sentai suits have small differences in the costumes besides their color. Denji Sentai Megaranger, which is where Power Rangers In Space takes the source footage, is a great example since the basic base suit is the same throughout the Megarangers but with their color. The helmets are nearly identical until you look at the edges or their visors which is used to distinguish them. Not for these guys and we'll talk more about that on Wednesday!

The box looks amazing, he isn't just called the Psycho Blue Ranger, he is the In Space Psycho Blue Ranger!
The image looks amazing and you have the Power Rangers In Space logo at the top.
The side has a different crop of the main art.
You get the prototype of the figure in the back and it looks good.

In Space Psycho Blue Ranger

The figure looks amazing. Most of the detail is sculpted onto the base body, the arms, legs, and part of the lower torso has a lot of sculpted detail. There are a lot of pieces that are made out of soft plastic that is put on top of the base body, you can see that on the boots (which makes sense), and the chest piece are separate pieces. The main torso piece is a bit of a pain but it does make sense why they did it like this. It restricts articulation a little less than it would if it was sculpted onto the main body. I love how much more it looks like a man in a suit rather than a figure and I love the aesthetic.
The helmet... is okay, it looks a little buggy but it does look good. I do think they didn't really capture the eyes, they're a little big and the angle just seems... off.
He does come with a few accessories, one of them is a left fist, which does look good with the silver studs on the back of the hand.
He has a pair of grabby hands which are used to hold weapons.
One of those weapons is Psycho Blue's Psycho Axe! Which looks incredible but the paint is chipping on mine already so be careful when handling it.
It can be held with both hands and it's pretty sturdy unlike it's Bandai Legacy Collection counterpart.
It also comes with an effect piece which attaches at the tip, the slit is a little hard to find.
It's more of a spark effect if you ask me, and I can kind of see it.
There's also the lightning hand effect which is only on the right hand which is a shame since they sometimes use both hands to unleash this attack.

The paint is nicely done here since the whole thing is translucent green but the hand is painted well enough you wouldn't really notice unless you looked up close.
It does look a little silly with a single hand and it could be a little longer much like the Black Series Emperor Palpatine's.
Right now there aren't any Space Rangers yet but he can make a worthy adversary for your other Rangers.
Articulation is the basic of the line, double jointed elbows and knees, ankle hinge and pin for rocker ankle. Swivel at the pin for the hands and hinge at the wrist.
Swivel and hinge at the shoulders and ball jointed hips. There's also an ab crunch with good range of motion. The head is on a ball joint and hinge but it doesn't go up much.
He is a little shorter than the White Ranger and the Red Galaxy Ranger.
Shorter than the baddies like Lord Zedd and Goldar.
He's also significantly smaller than his Bandai Legacy Collection counterpart. You can see the shade of blue is a little darker and it just looks like a guy in a suit.
The Axe is significantly better in this one and the joints are a little tighter for the most part.
I love this figure, it's one of the cooler figures in the line because of how intricate the suits are which makes sense for a non-core team suit. I'm looking forward to finishing this set and even more excited to have some Space Rangers for these guys to fight against. It was supposed to come out in October and it did and now it's everywhere. They're abundant which isn't good, hopefully the poor sales don't affect the line. I assume it's poor since they're warming pegs everywhere I go. There's plenty of Lightning Collection figures in stores that haven't been bought and it's honestly sad to see how many of them are hanging around until they go on clearance. I love Power Rangers and I hope for the best for the line. These are a GameStop exclusive so they'll be $22.99 and if you can take advantage of the 25% off sale going on until the 25th of December. Good luck and Happy Hunting!
