Review: Power Rangers Beast Morphers - Hasbro Lightning Collection Beast Morphers Red Ranger

Power Rangers Beast Morphers is the most recent Power Rangers season showing as of now, it's also produced by Hasbro and Saban, I think. Anyway, haven't watched it and I plan to... at some point. I did watch Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters back when it came out and finished. Personally, I loved it, I loved the aesthetic and tone of the season. It was interesting and the leather suits were cool. I was surprised when they announced that they would bring Go-Busters to the U.S... a season that was almost half-a-decade old when that was announced. Still, it was nice to see them and hopefully they'd fit in with the scale of the rest of the rangers... but that wasn't the case since Bandai wasn't in charge of making Power Rangers anymore, man, what a year! Still, I'm surprised it took Hasbro until wave 2 to make a figure of the current season for their collector oriented Lightning Collection line. Let's get to it.

The box looks cool, you see everything and it's the same as the others.
Prototype, looks cool.
Helmet art looks nice. You also get the logo up at the top.
The other side doesn't have much besides a different crop of the art on the other side.

Beast Morphers Red Ranger

This figure doesn't have reuse, which makes sense since the sculpt and design of this suit is vastly different than most suits previously seen until that point. The leather suits had a nice texture and a lot of details throughout. There's a noticeable amount of wrinkles detailed into the figure itself which is always nice to see. The lower jacket piece is a separate part made out of soft plastic. The harness is also a separate piece and it's the most annoying part of the costume. I appreciate that they did it so the butterfly joint wouldn't be hindered but they could have at least secured it at the back. The morpher is also nicely detailed and it has decent paint apps on it.
The helmet is nice! A little round and not dark enough but it's nice. It does what it needs to do and in my opinion... it's a little small. The body is way too broad and the head is too small.
He does have a bunch of accessories, he comes with a pair of fists. The classic Sentai gloves in use.
You have a trigger finger hand and you get a more relaxed hand.
You also get a Beast X-Saber which is nicely detailed, you get more paint apps on one side over the other. Which is, very normal but also sad.
It's surprisingly soft but not soft enough to warp easily like the Legacy weapons. The basic figures had more solid weapons which is a little sad if you think about it. Seriously, I had less problems with the basic 3.75" and 5" figures than I did with the Legacy Line which was full of QC issues.
You get a nice effect which looks very pixelated, very appropriate considering the source material.
It looks so cool and I did like the green-ish yellow hue the effects had in the season.
It holds on pretty easily and doesn't slip out.
You get the Cheetah Beast Blaster which looks good, it's already in it's blaster mode so the forelegs are up.
I'm not surprised the figure comes with this but he didn't need it... well he did have it in the Power Rangers footage but not Go-Busters... I would have liked an additional weapon like the Beast-X-Blaster but I get why they didn't.

The head looks pretty good, I heard that they got the actors to scan their likeness for these figures.
It doesn't show, seriously, it has a vague resemblance to Rorrie D. Travis, but the amount of detail on the hair and earrings are neat.
Mine has a pretty bad defect, especially because I was impatient and bought the first one I could find at Walgreens which released months before they showed up at Target and Wal-Mart and pretty much elsewhere.
The left eye is off and it's noticeable once you're aware and looking for it.
The amount of articulation is basic for this line.
You get a ball jointed head with a hinge for up and down motion.
You get double jointed elbows and knees. Thigh and bicep swivel. You get butterfly shoulders which are pretty useful but the harness is annoying.
The hips and shoulders are on a hinge and swivel. There's a swivel on the boot, a hinge on the ankle as well as a forward facing pin for that ankle rock.
You get a swivel on the pin and a hinge on the wrists for all of the hands.
You get a waist hinge as well as a diaphragm ball joint which is so useful but the cut looks awkward.
He fits in with the other figures released but the head is too small. I think that's why he looks beefed up.
He is taller than both of the other Red Rangers I have, taller than the basic figure and the S.H. Figuarts Red Buster.
He's also taller than Cruise or Cheeda-Nick.
The weapons between this an the basic figure are pretty similar, not that different actually.
You can use the Beast X-Blaster, it works but it doesn't look right.
You can also use the Beast X-Cannon, another thing I forgot to mention is that the Cheetah Beast Blaster cannot point directly forward due to the angle of the fingers for the holding hand which is unfortunate especially because of the type of articulation they use for the wrist. I wish they had that joint the Figuarts and Legacy Life Center use.
I have mixed feelings about this, he looks too buff and that's my main issue since these guys are supposed to be smaller, Japanese men inside rubber and leather suits. This doesn't reflect that but that's okay.
I hope they release the Bike because this doesn't work, it's surprising though, and an option.
This figure is super easy to find, seriously, I find it everywhere and I'm not going to be surprised if it goes on clearance in a couple weeks or months. Heck, it might even be on clearance now! He'll be about $20 everywhere except GameStop, in that case it's $22.99. Happy Hunting!
