Review: Power Rangers Beast Morphers - Hasbro Lightning Collection Beast Morphers Gold Ranger

Still haven't watched Beast Morphers but I do have plenty of experience with Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters. I thought Beet Buster was in interesting character despite his questionable usage of the english language. He was played by Matsumoto Hiroya who played Magi Yellow in Mahou Sentai Magiranger back in 2005. I thought he did well, I watched all of Magiranger and I can say that his acting improved quite a bit between Magiranger and Go-Busters. The design was cool and they were the equivalent of the 6th Ranger, although with Beet and Stag Buster in the team that made the total of 5 members which isn't all too common nowadays. Let's get to it!

The box isn't gold, it's more of a cheesy orange yellow color. It's okay, but it has Beast Morphers Gold Ranger in the front.
The back has a nice render of the Gold Ranger, looks good.
Different crop on the right side.
The left side has the box-art we're looking for.

Beast Morphers Gold Ranger

This figure doesn't reuse any parts, maybe just the hip and the upper arms. The torso has a different design than the standard Beast Morpher's uniform. The harness looks much better and doesn't move around as much as the Red Ranger's. The lower half has a lot of new details. The thigh armor is nicely sculpted, the detail on the boots looks amazing! And it's all topped off with a nice gold and silver paint job. The only thing is that the harness should be darker.
The helmet is made out of two pieces and mine has the horn messed up. In Japan he's based off the Rhinoceros Beetle but it was changed to a Mantis in the U.S. because it was more "kid-friendly"? which I don't understand, it's also because they're not too well known here so that makes sense. The helmet does look good, paints apps are good but you can see the seam is too visible and the crooked horn is distracting.
You get plenty of accessories for this figure, you have a right fist and the Rhinoceros Beetle horn shaped hand for his signature pose.
You get a pair of grabby hands which have the sentai gloves. They hold both of his weapons well but the swivel or peg on the left hand is too loose so the blade points down because it's too heavy unless it's perfectly balanced. Even then it'll end up facing down at some point.
You get the Striker Morpher in it's blaster form which is nicely detailed, on the left side you see the visor which is painted.
On the right side you have all of the nice, intricate detail that is sculpted in.
It does look cool, but I wish it had the option to have the visor out but it's okay, it would have made it too fragile.
The angle of the hand also doesn't allow it to point straight forward, it has this weird upward angle.
You can't get it to point forward so you have to fiddle with it and it'll end up looking weird anyway.
You get the Striker Saber which is nicely detailed but it's sorely missing a lot of paint apps.
It should have been made in a black plastic with painted detail that it already has.
You also get the effect piece which slides onto the blade, I don't quite remember where it is from but you can use it as a spark effect for when he strikes the bad guys.
It stays on pretty well but it's a very soft, translucent, rubbery plastic so it'll warp easily.
The right hand is much tighter than the left so you won't have as many issues with that one, it is a fairly consistent problem in the line.

Nate Silva

The unmasked head... is okay, it's not perfect, it does have the slightest resemblance to Abraham Rodriguez, he's missing the glasses but that's okay. The head looks good from the front and in certain angles but not the side.
Still, it's a nice addition. I'm getting a little greedy because I wish they came with the heads of their Sentai counterparts but it's okay.
Again, that's the best part of this line, having the option to display them without their helmets.
As for scaling, he scales well with the other armored heroes, here's the Magna Defender, I think this body looks better with the additional detail, the helmet also looks bigger so the doesn't look as jacked.
It scales well with the Red Ranger but he looks a little taller, not just because of the horns. He's taller than the basic 6" Steel figure.
He's taller than both the Beast Morphers Gold and Silver, he looks thicker which is good. I feel like the basic figures have a semi-stylized look to them, making them look like animated characters.

The weapons are almost identical, I was surprised that the one from the lightning collection was much smaller but it's detail is a lot sharper.
The same with the Strike Saber, the only thing that really separates these two is the paint application.
Finding the figure shouldn't be hard, which is the case for all, well, most of the figures in the line. $20 everywhere except for GameStop which will be $22.99. I do think it's a pretty good figure, I think it's slightly better than the Red Ranger because of the harness and it looks a lot more proportionate. Happy Hunting!
