Review: Marvel Comics - Marvel Legends 80th Anniversary Iron Man

This Iron Man is a fantastic representation of what I think of when I think about Iron Man. The classic design of the Red and Gold body with the [-_-] face. I was excited because the two Iron Man armors I owned were the Vintage Series Model 9 Iron Man and the Model 51 Iron Man from the Okoye Build-a-Figure wave. The one from the Vintage Series was just so outdated that it didn't fit with the rest of the current Marvel Legends figures, and those hips were terrible! I was excited that there would be another one and it looks amazing! Such an improvement from the previous ones.

The box is the same as Thor's but with the Iron Man logo which looks neat.
You get to see all of the accessories from the window and you can decide how you like your Tony Stark head since Marvel Legends are prone to paint defects unfortunately.
You get a nice piece of artwork from Alex Ross is based on the Model 3 armor and I love the way he paints or draws the glare on the surface of the armor.
There's also the one in the back which shows a more modern look of the Model 3. It looks more like the one the Mezco one is based off of, it has a more plated ook and doesn't match the figure.
"Genius industrialist and inventor Tony Stark creates a suit of armor for himself, powered by the arc reactor in his chest, becoming Iron Man."
Out of the box, all the contents are nicely stored with little to no room for warping.
Out of the box he looks incredible, he comes with the Mark 4 helmet already on. It has a nice shiny glossy look to the figure. This doesn't reuse pieces from previous Marvel Legends figures. The hip, forearm, shin and foot pieces all have grooves going horizontally across. There's also the two circles on the sides of the waist that aren't glued on.
The paint is almost non existent, I think, it has a nice tone of Red and a not really yellow nor gold color to the arms, legs, and faceplate. The biceps on mine are attached incorrectly which is a shame but it doesn't really bother me so I won't change it anytime soon.
The Mark 4 head looks very square, a defined jawline, and strong cheekbones. There's also a brow ridge atop of the eyes. The holes for the eyes and mouth have black paint which makes them stand out more than if they didn't.
The Mark 3 one was a sillier looking face, the cheekbones are just as defined, the jaw is slightly more rounded but there are no brow ridges but there is a nose. The mouth has detailing inside that is painted gold but it's very faint. Personally I prefer the Mark 4 head but it wasn't an easy choice.
You also get a pair of fists that fit in nicely into the wrist, there's a lot of detailing on the hands too.
The hand has that same texture as the forearm and the feet. The repulsor is also visible and painted! They didn't need to do that but they did and it's appreciated.
You also get open repulsor hands with peg holes on the center of the palm. There's no wrist articulation which is a shame but the detailing is good. I do think they're a little too big for the figure.
There's repulsor/thruster effects that peg onto the bottom of the feet. You only get two unfortunately.
The feet don't get any closer to each other so you'll have to live with an awkward leg posture when flying. They can also peg onto the hands but there's an accessory that makes it look just that much better.
There's also the "flash" effect that peg onto the palms and they have peg holes in the center.
The blast effect pegs in easily and just completes the whole look. I think it was an interesting choice to pick this shade of yellow. It just looks strange and more like gummy candy.
The Tony Stark head looks incredible, nothing like Robert Downey Jr. but he never did in the comics. The hair is nicely sculpted and the mustache is on point. The paint applications are clean but the head is a little too large for the body. I don't think this is a reused sculpt.
I love the way the hair looks and you can have him with the Tony Stark head or with either helmet on. You have to fiddle a good bit if you want him to hold the hemet but it is possible.
Articulation is pretty basic Marvel Legends articulation, pin and swivel at the shoulders and hips. Bicep and thigh swivel, double jointed knees and elbows.
Hinge at the ankle and pin for rocking action. Hinge on the fist and swivel at the pin for both pairs of hands. The waist is on a swivel, the boots have a boot swivel at the top. An ab crunch with good range of motion.
The head is on a balljoint where it connects, there's a hinge that goes forward and back.
He does scale well with other Marvel villains such as the Living Laser and Grey Gargoyle.
He fits in well with his 80th Anniversary co-stars, the Hulk from the Hulk v. Wolverine 2-pack and the Thor from the same line. He's the smaller of the three.
He's in between sizes with the other comic Iron Man armors. He definitely looks wider than the Model 51 and just better proportioned than the Model 9.
He's taller than MCU Tony Stark and Iron Man Mark L (50).
The head is too big on the comic one and too small on the MCU one, we just one that's the right size.
The figure is amazing especially for the $24.99 price point, you get a really nice variety of accessories as well as an incredible sculpt. The playability is also there and you have many options, Tony Stark, Iron Man Model 3 or 4. He should be in stores still at Target, Wal-Mart and GameStop. I got mine at Wal-Mart and I almost didn't go but I did and it was worth it. I also got Captain America. If you find him, get him, I'm sure you'll love this figure especially if you're an Iron Man fan. Happy Hunting.
