Review: Marvel Stud10s - Iron Man 3 (2013) - Marvel Legends The First Ten Years Pepper Potts, Iron Man Mark XXII, and The Mandarin

Sorry about the late post, long and busy week and I didn't have this set, I realized this last Sunday, I though either Ronan or the Thor: The Dark World two pack were next but no... it was this one, I didn't think I'd have to buy this until next week or the one after. Either way, I got it via Amazon prime for $70 and it was quite a hit to my wallet and it's also pretty underwhelming. You get a repaint of a War Machine armor and you also get a release of a figure that was shown when Iron Man 3 came out but never did but without his accessories and Pepper! And no, Pepper Potts wasn't worth $70 but I'm sorta glad I got her. She fits well with the crew.

Standard box, everything is on display, as you can see, only two accessories. Sad.
You get a nice picture in comic book panel forms and a bit of story from Iron Man 3.

"Suited up as Iron Man, Tony Stark dissapears to rural Tennessee to investigate global terrorist attacks and discovers that the radical soldiers are afflicted with Extremis. A virus that can enhance human strength and durability. But can also be fatal to anyone infected by it."

I did watch Iron Man 3 and it's the most memorable one of the three for me, maybe because it's the most recent but I did really like it. I know a lot of people didn't really like this one but I did. Two I don't remember period.
You get a bit of bio of all the three characters in the set and a poster of Iron Man 3 which has Tony Stark in his hall of armor.
Of course it goes well together with the previous three boxes and it looks amazing! I love it!
You can also display them as such with the bios showing.

Pepper Potts

"When CEO of Stark Industries Pepper Potts is infected with the life-threatening Extremis virus, Tony Stark's mission to take down the Mandarin gets personal."

The figure is okay, it's based on her appearance towards the end of the movie where she's just wearing pants and a sports bra. There's not much to talk about here, the articles of clothing have sculpted seams and they're one solid color.
The joints can be distracting and an eyesore but it's okay, there's not much you can do without compromising articulation.
The head does look like Gwyneth Paltrow. The face from the front is very recognizable. The hair does get in the way of the head articulation. She can't really look up that much or to the sides without fiddling your way there. The hair is made out of soft plastic so it'll warp easily but it makes it easy to maneuver, not enough to look up though.
She's able to pose pretty well, she can be very dynamic. I wish she had a better crunch but you do get a decent swivel which is neato. A double elbow joint would have been greatly appreciated.
Still, she's a good addition to the collection. There are some other options I would  have prefered but then again those wouldn't have been good action figures which is what Hasbro is trying to make.
She scales well with the other Marvel Legends so she fits right in.
The accessories that come in this set are for her, she comes with the arm of Iron Man Armor Mark IX.
You can see a very shiny glossy red color with some gold paint and techy details at the top of the arm.
All you have to do is pop off the regular arm and pop this one in. It has double elbow joints which is good but no wrist articulation whatsoever so it has a very awkward angle.
If you add the blaster effect to the hand you have to angle it correctly so she shoots forward.

Iron Man Mark XXII (Hot Rod)

"As the Ten Rings criminal organization begins to terrorize nations around the world, Tony Stark looks to shut down it's alleged leader, the Mandarin, as Iron Man."

A repainted War Machine figure with very cool flames on his appendages.
You see ports on the back that aren't used here. I love the paint of this and the shoulders surprisingly don't get on the way. The ankles are pretty much useless which is sad.
It does look amazing though but another downside is no other accessories. No extra hands and no blast/flying effects but you should already have some with all the other Iron Man figures you may own.
The head looks cool, I prefer the red and gold scheme on the helmets.
The flame paint on this figure is the best part of the armor and that's about it, I don't know what else to say about it.
Having the flying effects would have been appreciated but c'est la vie.
I have had trouble standing him up due to the useless ankles but it is nice to have.

 The Mandarin

"Under the guise of the Mandarin, Trevor Slattery works under Extremis-propagator Aldrich Killian, taking credit for systematic attacks on global soils and hoping to profit from feeding both sides of the War on Terror."
I watched the Iron Man Animated Series when I was a kid on Jetix and I was familiar with the Mandarin and his rings but once I saw the movie I was very confused and even now I'm confused.

This version of the Mandarin was supposed to be released back in 2013 but never did. He would have come with a knife and a katana which this figure doesn't come with...
The paint and details on this figure are amazing, definitely better than the prototype back in 2013. The paint on the robes and the detailing on the cuffs have this really nice gold paint. I like how they painted the robes along the hood, the differing shades work well together.
With the photo real tech he doesn't look as silly as he did in 2013. The way they painted the short hair and sculpted the beard is impressive. Figures with facial hair don't really come out well but he did.
Articulation is highly limited due to the design of the figure. The elbows are single hinged and the swivel is at the elbow instead of the bicep.
The rings are detailed and painted a plain gold. They look nearly identical to each other, I wish they had a bit more paint and detail.
He also could have come with a bunch of accessories, he came with nothing. A rifle maybe? an alternate head with sunglasses perhaps?
Maybe even a dagger or the katana like the prototype.
One that would have made a lot of sense would be a handgun for those trigger fingers.
I would have lived without this figure but again, I'm glad I have it and it's a nice addition even though he isn't the actual villain. A Killian figure maybe would have worked here instead then again the Mandarin figure would have never released so... Still, I'm pleased but disappointed with this set, they're all so eh. The Mark XXII could have been left out and the price lowered or a completely different figure would have been better. Heck! even more accessories would have been better. I'll put up the next set this week and I'll finish up the MCU Captain Marvel figures. I'll put up the Grey Gargoyle and Genis-Vell along with the Kree Sentry afterwards. Maybe even Black Bolt and Namor. Until next time!
