Review: Power Rangers Dino Charge - Hasbro Lightning Collection Dino Charge Red Ranger

I had to watch Power Rangers Dino Charge in order to watch this review because I didn't really watch it. I'm so far behind in seasons that it's hard to catch up. I did watch all of Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger before, I loved that season! Most of the recent seasons of Power Rangers are a little hard to watch, this one however wasn't bad. I enjoyed some parts of it, especially when he tried to take out a weapon from his bag but besides that I thought the acting was eh. I was slightly surprised by the fact that they decided to skip a Sentai season to adapt into Power Rangers. I thought Go-Busters was great, and especially since the morphing sequence included "it's morphin' time!" I thought it would be a great season to bring here but also the merchandise wasn't that much, a couple zords and a few rangers with very few modes. Kyoryuger on the other hand had 10 Rangers, 10+ Zords, a bunch of batteries which was the gimmick of the show while Go-Busters didn't have much of a gimmick. Still, I saw the Dino Charge toys in stores and I actually got a fair amount of them, I didn't get all of them unfortunately but I did get a couple. And S.H. Figuarts also had their core team completed plus the Armored Might Rangers were pretty cool. We didn't get any more recent teams with the Legacy Collection which was okay, but it would have been nice to see the Ninja Steel Rangers or even the Super Megaforce Rangers in that form but it was cancelled after Hasbro bought Power Rangers. To my surprise they put the Dino Charge Red Ranger in the first wave which wouldn't be my first pick but honestly, who cares? Let's take a closer look!

The box is nice and simple, the logo of the line in the front and the name of the Ranger. The window has all of the accessories on display.
The left side of the box has the rest of the helmet, and something I didn't notice until now was that the season logo was on the top on the left side. Pretty neat if you ask me. I just wish it had the nice fancy logo with all the colors instead of monochrome and faded out.
The right side has a different angle, or the same angle, just in a different position.
THe back has the prototype with really shiny silver on the figure. let's see if it lives up to the prototype.
The suit looks great! It does follow the trend of angular patterns around the chest that the other "dinosaur" teams had. The cool part is that the logo or crest for the team is the same design that's around the chest. The pauldron on the left shoulder is the top of the head and the eye and the silver and yellow with the zig-zag is the upper and lower jaws with the teeth showing.
The arms are completely different from the other two Rangers in the line (White Ranger and Shadow Ranger). It does need a little more wash in order for the sculpt to pop. The cuffs on the foots and gloves are nicely painted in a glossy silver which is alright, could be shinier. Unlike the White Ranger the soles of the boots are painted black which is good!
Initially when the first pictures for Kyoryuger came out I thought the helmets looked stupid, I didn't get it but then it hit me! The whole helmet is supposed to represent a dinosaur head. The eye at the top is green and the whole visor covers the head. The teeth look cool and they go all around the visor. I also like the very angular look to the overall shape. The silver mouthpiece is supposed to be the tongue and the nostrils on the nose are a neat touch. I can't decide which of the three (now four) Tyrannosaurus Rangers I like the most.
The chest has the Dinosaur head and it's nicely printed on there.

The belt buckle looks great, I just wish it had a little bit more paint.
He comes with two grabby hands that double as pose hands. The index and middle finger stick out a little bit more to give them a T-rex like hand posture. The right hand has the two fingers separated but they're fused on the left side.
He also has a fist on the right side but I wish he had a pair of fists instead of...
The chopping hand or the knife-hand. I don't really have much use for this but it's a neat touch. I'd rather have two fists or even two palms but not one of each. I love the claws at the top of the backhand. That's just me but it does look cool if you make it look as if it's closing the Dino Charge Morpher.
Speaking of the Morpher, the detail is great but it's actually painted yellow and isn't even molded black. The only reason I noticed was because the paint chipped. I wish it had a couple more lines painted on. No battery accessory but that makes sense.
He can hold them well and it is made out of a soft plastic but it isn't too soft. Since it almost chipped I thought that the piece around the trigger was going to break.
While the right hand is meant for the Blaster, and the left is for the sword he can still hold it with the other hand.
I also didn't notice but there are lines around the spinny part of the Dino Charge Morpher.
The Dino Saber is nicely detailed but it just looks a little off. I think it might have to do with the lower "jaw" of the Saber, it's supposed to be painted black but what can you do?
He also holds it well with the right hand, the groove along the palm is meant for the handle of the saber. He can also hold it with the right hand but it's very loose, until you can get the index and middle fingers to go over the guard.
The effect piece is a lightning effect which just goes over the blade pretty well.
It doesn't fall off easily which is good but maybe a piece for the blaster or even the combined weapon would have been a nice additional accessory to have.
The butterfly shoulders aren't restricted even though the T-rex on the left chest is an overlay. He can hold on with two hands although it's a bit hard because of the angle of the grip. They're a little too stiff as well.
As for the Tyler head, it's alright. I think it does look like Brennan Mejia however, the lips look strange. The hair is on point though but it's alright. I keep the helmets on although having the option to have the civilian heads is great!
As a whole, it's a nice figure, I don't think any parts of this figure were reused. Maybe the feet, upper thighs and hips were reused between the White Ranger and this one. The ball jointed diaphragm is amazing although the way it was but in the upper torso makes the line of the logo align weird.
The belt is a separate piece although it can ride up a little bit but it's easy to fix.
Double jointed elbows and knees, ankle hinge and pin for rocker ankle. Swivel at the pin for the hands and hinge at the wrist. Swivel and hinge at the shoulders and ball jointed hips. There's also an ab crunch with good range of motion. The head is on a ball joint and hinge but it doesn't go up much.
One thing that does bother me is the left shoulder on the butterfly joint isn't painted black like it's supposed to.
Still I love this figure although I would like to have the Dino Charge one to make some more comparisons. Regardless, I feel like the proportions on this one are great!
It does fit into scale with your other Hasbro Figures, The Black Series and the Marvel Legends.
Way too short compared to the Legacy Collection but it is nice to see all the T-Rexes next to each other. You can also see the sculpted in wrinkles on the suit.
A lot taller than the Basic 5" figure and you can see the difference is proportions.
I'm not sure which is the best figure out of the first wave. I would have to say this one because of the amount of detail and accessories. This one isn't too hard to find so you'll see it at Wal-Mart, Target, and GameStop in abundance and the price ranges from $18.95, $19.99 and $22.99 respectively. While it is concerning to see how many of these figures I see on the pegs I am glad to see the second wave coming as well as a third announced. It's a very promising line and I love it. Happy hunting.
