Review: Power Rangers in Space - Bandai of America Legacy Collection Psycho Red, Black, and Blue Rangers

One thing I wish Legacy Collection had more of would be villains, yes the Green Ranger was a villain for a little bit in the show but that doesn't really count. The closest we got to it were the Psycho Rangers. That was something I remember from the show, I remember really liking their faces, very alien looking, there was also the Silver Psycho Ranger which was created for Power Rangers In Space. In Denji Sentai Megaranger they were Jaden Sentai Nejiranger or "Evil Electricity Squadron Nejiranger" which explains why they have an "N" on their belts. Unfortunately we didn't get Psycho Pink and Yellow but we got Psycho Silver and Green which were exclusives. It should be easy to customize Pink and Yellow but more on that later.

And that later is now! The three rangers are identical, there's no differences in the sculpts between the three rangers. Head is the same, torso, legs, arms, etc. The only thing that changes is the base color and the collar for the Psycho Black since it would be overkill to have everything just black and white. It is unfortunate that the black on the details is the same as the black on the rest of the suit.
It's nothing like the spandex from the Space Rangers. The detailed armored look is amazing and nothing is reused. There's a lot of textures on the back, legs, and arms. The only restricted articulation is on the shoulders because of the "V" shape design on the shoulders. The boots and cuffs look amazing. Paint is good throughout and doesn't seem to miss anything if you ask me.
The head has a lot of angles and points. There also seems to be a trace of the clips on the side of the helmet by the bottom sides of the head. The visor is glossier than the rest of the head but just as glossy as the rest of the body. Silver is a nice shiny color.
It's the same throughout but the top of the head on Black is the same as the visor and the rest of the head. I do like Red the most.

Psycho Red

Since all of the rangers of the same they come with their individual weapons. I believe they were supposed to build Alpha but that ended up being scrapped along with the Ninja Steel Rangers after they announced that Hasbro would be taking over production.
He has the articulation to hold his sword with two hands but that's about it. The design really hinders the articulation on the shoulders. The Psycho sword looks pretty accurate but it's made out of a really soft rubbery plastic that doesn't hold its shape well.
Admittedly he does go well with the Space Rangers, it's nice to have them fight against someone even if it's just part of the team.
The other two aren't much different but they have their individual weapon.
I do think they're a little too wide up top and too thin in the waist, the way the arms are attached don't help since it gives his shoulders a weird silhouette.

Psycho Black

Psycho Black has his Psycho Rod and again, he get's the short end of the stick.
It's made out of the same rubbery plastic that the Psycho Sword is made out of but it's worse since the handle is long and it makes it easier to warp.
It is nicely sculpted but I can't help but think that the details on this weapon look faded. They're not as sharp or as clear as the Metallic Ranger's weapons for the Mighty Morphin' Team.

Psycho Blue

This one's color is a lot lighter compared to the Blue Space Ranger's shade. I haven't fully decided if I like it or not but I'll accept it.
The Psycho Axe is fairly simple, the blades are supposed to form an "N" but it just ends up looking like an "S" especially with the square in the center.
Overall, they're pretty good, no complaints and if you wanted to you could give their weapons to the Space Rangers to make them look like the Psycho Rangers in disguise. Overall articulation is the same as the male bodies in the other Legacy Collection line. Hinge and ball jointed head, maybe it's just a swivel. Swivel and hinged shoulders and hips, double jointed knees and elbows. Bicep and thigh swivel. Wrist swivel and hinge and a ball joint that attaches the hand. Rocker ankles and hinges. They still suffer from loose joints but it's an issue that plagues the entire line.
They were released earlier this year and maybe towards the end of last year. They're easy to find in Walgreens for about $19.99 a piece, or at GameStop for $22.99. I think Wal-Mart had them for $18.95 on the website and Amazon for $19.99, I'm not sure if you can still find them there. The good thing about them sharing the same sculpt is that it is very easy to make a custom Pink and Yellow, you can use Blue or Red as a base but they won't have the female body shape. It's doable but I just wish they released the two as a set. Either way, very fun to have.
