Review: Black Panther (2018) - Marvel Legends Ulysses Klaue and Erik Killmonger

This was the figure I was anticipating the most ever since I watched the movie. I wanted an unmasked and unsuited Killmonger, I could live without Klaue since Marvel Legends doesn't have most of the villains in 6" scale. Still I'm pleased to have Klaue since he did play a part in the movie and he also appeared in Age of Ultron which I watched a couple months ago after watching Black Panther and before watching Infinity War around last December... Yes I was behind get over it, now I'm all caught up and ready for Captain Marvel and End Game. Also the second trailer for End Game is out and I can't wait until April!

After I got my Dora Milaje which were the only figures available in the first weeks of January the week after was the 25% off bag so I got these two, and I was very excited to open them up, they're neat figures and they go well together because they work together.
"Seeking vengeance for his father's exile from Wakanda, Erik Killmonger returns to challenge T'Challa for the right to the Wakandan throne."
The Mask looks so much better in the art than it does in the actual toy, which is to be expected honestly.
Erik Stevens Killmonger or N'Jadaka was a Wakandan-American former U.S. soldier that found his way to Wakanda in order to take the throne from T'Challa. Watch the movie it's great, I don't want to spoil things, or at least more than I already have.

The figure looks dull, it looks like a toy, I don't know what it is, maybe the paints or the color of the plastic that they used. It just looks like a cheap knock-off.
Well, the pants do at least, the chest armor does look good and it's detailed throughout with details that I would have never noticed. The way the chest piece is sculpted thankfully doesn't get in the way of the articulation as much as I thought it would, and he's a fairly muscular fellow.
The head is not as good as the Erik and Ross 2 pack, this one looks pretty bad actually, or at least compared to the ones that have been released, the photo-real printing tech was not working well that day I guess. It looks goofy much like the faces of older figures, the face on Civil War Black Panther from the same line looks just as silly, not as bad as the smiling Star-Lord from the Mantis BAF line.
He comes with a handful of accessories, one that you wouldn't really notice is his watch, it's very thin and should've been glued on since I broke mine immediately after taking him out of the package. I had to use super glue in order to piece it back together and it's still a pain in the rear since it wobbles all over his wrist, there's no way to keep it place.
His belt comes off, it doesn't peg in fully in the first place that's how I know it comes off. It's fairly easy to put back if you know what you're doing.
He does look strange without his belt, a little too skinny if you ask me but you can get away with it since it rides up. He looks naked without it though.
As for main accessories, he comes with a large pistol that's nicely detailed and made out of black plastic.
He can hold it with two hands but I don't want to warp the plastic. More accurately, the one in the movie was a Springfield Armory 1911 Loaded MC Operator which looks a little small compared to this one.
He also comes with his assault rifle or BCM Recce 14 KMR-A which looks too big in this scale, again he can hold with two hands but no warping the plastic.
The most important accessory is the mask! The traditional African ceremonial mask is what does it for me. Honestly I was considering buying two of these figure so I could display with the mask and without but the head on this figure isn't that great so I'm deciding to keep it with the mask.
It's nicely done and recognizable so it's neato. I wish the paint was better implemented rather than airbrushed here and there.
It uses friction to keep on the face but after a while it just becomes too loose so it doesn't stay on for very long, the slightest bump and it'll come off.
The main reason why I don't want the hands to warp are because I want to recreate the pose from the poster, unfortunately the wrist articulation isn't there to keep the swords in place. The head also isn't as articulated due to the collar and his face just looks odd.
He's consistent with the other Killmonger figures, if I had to pick between this or the suited figure, I'd put it second. Third would be the lazy repaint unmasked Killmonger.
The head on the 2 pack release is so much better, just look at the paint quality and the eyes look better.
Just swap them and you'll have the perfect Michael B. Jordan head.
As for Klaue...
Klaue is okay, he's an okay figure
"An arms dealer obsessed with vibranium Ulysses Klaue infiltrates the secret nation of Wakanda to steal the sacred metal and sell it for a hefty profit."
He first appeared in Age of Ultron where he gets his arm cut off. I didn't watch that until after I watched the Black Panther so I had no clue, I thought he was just already like that.
The figure looks a little clunky from the waist up, so that's unfortunate.
The vest looks cool but he just looks so goofy, very skinny from the waist down but there is a reason!
His head is all bruised up and bloody which happens after he's captured by T'Challa.
He has a smirk on his face and it's a little weird, he doesn't really look like Andy Serkis at all.
The vest is a separate piece so that's the reason it looks so weird. It is nicely detailed however but maybe there were better ways to do this? I don't know why they didn't just sculpt it into the main body.
Without the vest he looks just as weird, the white collared shirt looks nothing like the one he wears in the movie but the sleeves are rolled up so that's cool.
You can have him run away from Killmonger if you'd like, it just works.
He works well with The First 10 Years Marvel Legends Ultron, too bad he's not that articulated at the waist so that's as far as he'll hunch over.
Still, you can have him talk to Ross about his mixtape.
What's really impressive is the detail on the tattoo on his right arm and the back of the head. The one on the arm is a scorpion and it continues to the backhand. He also has some wrist bands that I would have noticed or cared if they were missing.
He comes with a pistol that's smaller than Erik's but is the same as Ross'.
He also has gunslinger action or articulation on the right wrist.
His other accessory is the blaster arm which is already open, it's made out of a couple pieces.
It's impressive, the amount of detail that's in that piece is amazing, they didn't have to, I wouldn't have noticed.
It completes the look although he doesn't use that much in the movie since it's confiscated by T'Challa.
His standard arm looks just as fake as the one in the movie which is a nice touch.
It has details of the panels along the forearm and the palm of the hand.
He scales nicely with T'Challa in his new uniform.
And towered by Ultron who's huge since he's a repainted Build-A-Figure. I'm glad I got them especially since I loved the movie and the score. Seriously, the ancestral plane theme is one of the best pieces of music that I have ever heard. It's so moving and dramatic as it does it's job when T'Challa sees his father again. I'm just waiting for Shuri to come out, but if you want these get them at the GameStop, a lot of online retailers have him as well so he'll come out to about $20-$26.
