Review: Black Panther - Marvel Legends Everett Ross & Erik Killmonger (2 Pack)

So, this version of Erik Killmonger with the Michael B. Jordan head was one of the figures I had been anticipating the most! I saw the prototype on forums online, something about a Stan Lee build-a-figure and what not, and I instantly fell in love with it since I love the movie. This and the Falcon and Winter Soldier 2 pack that I'm still struggling to find would come with the pieces to assemble Stan Lee. That was cancelled and now the two sets don't come with BAF pieces. This was originally $39.99 and for two figures that are usually prices at 19.99 each, I guess it's fair. I paid full price thinking that this would be a set that would be hard to obtain... boy was I wrong. Falcon and Winter Soldier are the ones that are hard to find. I had to go to New York (I live in the New Jersey) to find them at two different Targets to see if I could find it and nothing! Meanwhile, this set is on clearance for less than $20! So we'll see if I can finally get Bucky and Sam.

"While Everett Ross is assigned to escort T'Challa to American soil. Erik Killmonger threatens the security of the Wakandan borders from which T'Challa hails."
I did not know this until I kind of figured it out a couple days ago, this is supposed to represent the kinetic energy storage feature of the suit. I just saw it as a lazy repaint or reissue that was not as cool as the first release that had the jaguar print. And it is, I just doesn't look as nice and it's very dull in appearance. The helmet's gold highlights definitely look better at the cost of the jaguar print.
The detailing on the suit is the same and the hold highlights are more pronounced than in the Okoye BAF release. The plastic is more of a charcoal black color. The lines in the front of the body are the only ones that a painted, the back has very little gold highlights.
This version of the head really shows the detail on the helmet, it's cleaner but the detail stops past where his actual ears would be. Part of me prefers this headsculpt over the other one.
 He comes with grabby hands
 He comes with open hands
And of course the sword and broken spear which as missing paint.
Now for the main event! The Michael B. Jordan head or N'Jadaka. So my mom loves Killmonger or maybe just Michael B. Jordan, she says he's much more handsome and muscular and he should have been the Black Panther. And as much as I love this head, it's very inaccurate to that part of the movie. The hair should be back instead of to the side. The face printing is good but it might be a wee funky on the right eye.
Seriously though, I still love this head, I'm glad I got my hands on it although I'm tempted to get another so I can customize it.
Here he is compared to the first release, as you can see, the paint and detail is very different. Even the fangs on the necklace are different, here they are of a tooth-like coloring. And the insteps aren't painted which I just noticed as I'm looking at the pictures.
And while the paint on the spear is missing, the silver on the blade of his sword is better here.
The head looks better on the old body so I might just display it as such.
As for Everett Ross... He's okay, I don't mind that he came with this set but I would have preferred a different character like Shuri but I guess this is fine.
He uses a suit so he looks like a fancy civilian. He played quite a part in the movie and he saved Nakia when Klaue's crew came to save him. So a suited civilian, he's very dynamic so you can get him a load of poses. He doesn't stand well unfortunately and the suit is also an old body that previous figures have used. The First Ten Years Tony Stark uses this exact same body just in a different color.
He looks nothing like Martin Freeman in my opinion. And he just looks weird, his mouth is in a weird shape and he looks out of place with the other figures. Maybe even one of my least favorite figures... or heads along with that smiling Star-Lord.
He comes with a single accessory: a pistol. It's sculpted well but it's underwhelming compared to what you usually get, if you get anything at all.
I don't mind the body but the shoulders are weird and the ankle joints suck. He's such a pain to stand up I end up leaving him laying down... goddammit Ross!
Honestly if it wasn't for the figure I wouldn't have remembered Agent Ross. He did fly one of the Wakandan ships to shoot down the weapons transports that would arm hundreds of people to rise up against their oppressors.
He's just as tall as Nakia and I guess he could be a little shorter. He just looks kinda silly in certain pictures but he doesn't look to be any taller than Agent 13.
He's about a hair tuft shorter than Erik Killmonger and those shoulders still bug me.
The main draw for me was the N'Jadaka head which if you think about it, I paid about $40 for the head and figure that I didn't really care about but I'm not against having.
I wish the hair was done differently but it does what it needs to and it looks good next to King T'Challa. He's a fine addition to the collection and if you can find him at Target on clearance and want him, do it! He's pretty cheap and get him before he's gone. Or THEM before THEY'RE gone.
