The box itself is pretty special in this case, the Marvel Stud10s logo is plastered all over the box.
The sides are some of the most detailed, it has a summary of the first Iron Man movie that came out in 2008 and some amazing artwork of the Mark 1. You also get a number 1 as this is the first of the 10 sets to complete the build-a-picture.
I saw Iron Man back around the time it came out and I thought it was okay, it was after the first Spider-Man trilogy and I had no idea what the Marvel Cinematic Universe was. This, and the third one are the ones I remember the most and watching CinemaWins and some random clips online I feel like I need to re-watch it since it looks to be a lot better than I remember.
"During a business tip gone wrong, Tony Stark is kidnapped and forced to create a mega-missile for a group of radicals. Much to the surprise of his captors, Stark instead creates a super-suit powered by an Arc Reactor chest-piece. Now weaponized, he escapes in what becomes known as the Mark 1 armor of the tech-powered hero, Iron Man."
You also get the poster and some little biography on the characters.
Tony Stark
"The heir of Stark Industries, Tony Stark does not realize the impact of his weapons of war until he is kidnapped and forced to build one or die."Tony Stark uses the generic suited body which is nearly identical to Agent Ross' and for some reason I could have sworn that he had two relaxed hands. He can't really hold a gun on that right hand though. I'm not sure if this is the best body to give him.
The tie piece is separate and it looks very thin and as if it might fall off at any second.
The head itself, isn't perfect, from afar, yes it does look like Robert Downy Jr. but close up... it's not the best likeness. The photo-real tech does help a lot in making him look like RDJ.
Articulation is really good, the suit doesn't get in the way, he has double jointed elbows and knees. The thigh and bicep cuts help as well. Wrist and ankle articulation and of course a ball jointed head. You get that full shoulder and hip range as well.
And although the head isn't perfect, from certain angles, yes he does look like him, but since he's suited, but not with the armor he'll look strange in "dynamic poses" so I don't really know what to do when I pose him.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to have a civilian version of every hero (especially with Power Rangers and seeing the Lightning Collection figures with the civilian heads makes me want them more) but for Tony Stark, he doesn't really do much without the suit (?) okay, that's a stretch, when I think Tony Stark, he's usually in a T-shirt fiddling with his tech and maybe that would have worked a lot better or maybe even with what he was wearing while he's in the cave.As for the character of Tony Stark... Robert Downy Jr. is Tony Stark, I can't imagine anyone else as the character, he's such a perfect fit. I wonder what Endgame will have in store for Tony.
The one issue that I do have with this figure is that he's so hard to stand up with those shoes, the ankle articulation, specifically the rocker ankles are a pain as well as the forward and back, you have to angle him just right to have him stand up and for this picture (on the bottom) it took me a couple tries.
Iron Man Armor Mark 1
I never did get any Iron Man figures when the movie came out. They didn't really interest me, and I didn't really care for Iron Man, I watched the cartoon (which I just realized was on TV because of the movie) and it was okay, I wasn't impressed. And even with the movie, I thought the suit was cool but I just wasn't that into it. It's so different now, I have like... 3-5 different Iron Man figures and I just bought the Infinity War Marvel Legends version last night. The suit itself... is amazing, I love the design of the suit, it's supposed to look real and like something he'd be able to build with things around the cave. It has a nice silver paint that has some shine to it with the right light. You also have a lot of variety in the paint, he isn't just silver, he has some orange and bronze with green throughout the figure. The figure is a little scaled down and it doesn't look as if Tony (the figure) would fit inside it. From what I know this is just a repaint of a 10 year old figure which is kind of disappointing, they had the chance to make a new figure. It's a similar issue to the Vintage Series Iron Man figure which is an outdated mold.
I love the look of the head, it looks like the one from the original comic. It's a little small for the rest of the body though. I'm glad they didn't show Tony's eyes through the eyes of the helmet although it would have been nice to include it as an alternate head. Maybe even a head with glasses for the Tony figure.
He also comes with this blast effect that doesn't clip in which I'm still trying to figure out how to work. I just don't know how to use it and the wrist has a working spring. I think they should have gotten rid of that feature.
The figure has a limited range of articulation due to the sculpt. The elbows are what suffer the most.
The forearms and lower legs pivot through the elbow and knee rather than thigh and bicep but it works. The ankle articulation is very limited, forward and back, and it pivots but no rocker ankle.
The gimmick piece is an eyesore and it doesn't match the right arm which is unfortunate and it does both me a little but what can you do.
Still, this is a pretty awesome figure. I have no regrets in buying this especially for the price I paid.
The head on this one is definitely better with the photo real as you can see compared to the one that came with in the Civil War 3-pack.If you can find him, you should get him. This is a nice set and I'm excited for the 80th Anniversary for Marvel, geez, my wallet is gonna die... I'm mostly interested in MCU figures, not as much the comic versions but I like completing sets sooo... Oh and you can't really fit the Tony head in the Mark 1 body so that's unfortunate.
