Review: Power Rangers Ninja Steel - 5" Villain Ripperat (Trapsaw)

Episode 2! Is the first episode in which they use Japanese footage from Ninninger. Ripperat is the second MoTW in the U.S. and the first one that they fight together as a team! In Ninninger, Yokai Kamaitachi (妖怪カマイタチ) was the very first MoTW, they split the footage from the first episode and used the first half of the fight for the first episode and the second part of the fight for the tenth episode where Kamaitachi returns as Trapsaw, Ripperat's twin brother. I'm not sure why they decided to do that, split Ninninger episode 1 into two. Ripperat just ends up being destroyed in a really awkward edit and Trapsaw just uses the second part of the fight with Kamaitachi when Shurikenjin is combined. I guess it slowly adds on? Episode one shows the morph and weapons, two shows the individual Zords and episode three combines the Megazord together. Kamaitachi means the "Sickle Weasel" which is pretty cool.

Following the new tradition set up by Dino Charge, Ripperat was one of the villains to be released in toy form as part of the Ninja Steel 5" line. There are a couple ways to get this figure. You can get it as a standalone figure for about $10 or less, you could get him with the Blue Ninja Steel Ranger as part of the Good vs. Evil packs for about $20 or if you want an even better deal, you could get him with the other five 5" rangers and the morpher in claw and sword mode in the Mighty Hero Set for about $50. I got him loose on Ebay for less than $8, he doesn't come with any accessories.
He's nicely sculpted throughout and even the tail is there, it's part of the back, part of me wishes it could have been a separate piece that you attach but I guess this works.
The detail on the hands and the arms is pretty good but the saw itself is plain. Being a Kamaitachi, having the hands being saws not sickles kinda works.
The chest and legs aren't painted, neither are the pipes and handles.
Articulation is basic, it doesn't have elbows, wrists, or boot articulation which is unfortunate. An elbow swivel would have been nice like Ice Age from Dino Thunder (Who was also the first MoTW in Kyoryuger).
Due to the shoulder fur the forward swivel and in and out pivot doesn't get much use so you can't pose him in certain poses with other figures.
The legs don't suffer at all, they're just as poseable as the guys. And since he's in scale with the other 5" rangers in the line. You can recreate the scene's from the show, especially if you have the morpher in claw or sword mode.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with this figure. I regret being so late with the Ninja Steel and Super Steel lines as well as the show itself. Now that I have a lot of the figures, I'm hooked! I really want to complete the Dino Charge 5" figures and the Super Megaforce 5" figures (all the Red Rangers!). If you can get Ripperat, you should definitely get him and use him for display or even just to play and pose. The best deal is the Mighty Hero Set, since it was a TRU exclusive, and old, it's going to be expensive but if you just want him or don't mind having the Blue Ranger, go look on Ebay for a loose, in box or in the Good vs. Evil pack one.
