Review: Black Panther - Marvel Legends Nakia and Okoye Build-a-Figure

I'm going to skip Namor and Black Bolt since I just want to review the Cinematic Universe stuff first and then I'll go back at some point I promise. Nakia was the last of the figures that I needed way back when. I searched all over the place. At one point I saw her at a Target and passed only to find out that they didn't have her anymore and I had to resort to paying 4 extra dollars at GameStop to complete Okoye. I finished the line after watching Black Panther and that made me want to finish Okoye. At this point I was okay with not having a Dora Milaje Army which I have now. Let's get into the review!

Nakia

"A member of the Dora Milaje, Nakia protects the reigning Black Panther with strength and poise."
Okay, so Nakia is not a Dora, at least in the movie. She's a Wakandan spy and she wears the Dora Milaje armor when she and Shuri have to fight against Erik Killmonger and this looks pretty accurate at first sight. However it's based on a concept design and it's only so accurate. The paint is faded on the uniforms and the legs so it's pretty plain and not as colorful as the uniform used in the movie. The pauldron on the right shoulder is a separate piece and it doesn't hinder the articulation that much but it gets in the way in certain poses.
I'm tempted to paint her myself but I might just get a different figure to try that out. The proportions are very human but her waist is still very small and she has wide hips. The buckle on the belt is a panther which isn't accurate to the one in the movie.
The head does look like Lupita Nyong'o, a fellow countrywoman of mine. There's a little bit of glue? I think that shines on the right of the forehead that bugs me but she looks great, if you look at the prototype from the packaging she looks very different from the final products and honestly, I think she looks a lot better.
The Ring Blades are also very inaccurate, they look cool but not accurate to the film, it has a nice texture and sculpt on the blade itself. The handle is painted brown and it fits in the hand, the only problem is that Nakia's hand is very small and the blade warps her hand.

 Okoye (Build-a- Figure)

To build Okoye you have to get 6 figures in the line which is about 120 dollars. Iron Man doesn't come with one so you can get away with only getting 6 out of the 7 in the wave. Black Panther comes with her head, Erik Killmonger and Black Bolt come with a leg each, Namor comes with both arms and Nakia comes with the body her spear and an additional dagger.
Again, Iron Man isn't necessary and I only got him about half a year after I completed Okoye.
Despite Okoye and Nakia being very similar she's not just a repaint, a lot of her is new. The skirt piece, the arms and the shoulders are sculpted differently. She also has gold armor which is fitting for a general! Yes, she's the general of the Dora Milaje and will be loyal to the throne regardless of who sits upon it.
The forearms and hands are also sculpted differently and I believe the shin and foot portion are different pieces compared to Nakia's.
The head looks very little like Danai Gurira but the face printing is pretty good. The lips could have been printed better. The head also has a tattoo, mine is offset slightly to the left. Looking at her closer I think the neck and even the top of the torso is a different sculpt.
The spear is inaccurate to the one in the movie and I think it's a lot longer as well.
She also comes with a dagger that I didn't see at all in the movie, I thought it would be T'Challa's sword during the challenges but it isn't so I don't know why she comes with this.
Okoye was the first Marvel Legends Build-a-Figure that I ever completed and the first ever build-a-anything from any line that I finished and trust me, I have so many limbs and pieces of lines that I never completed to build that specific thing.
Having both and being very articulated to pull off dynamic poses makes them a must get in my opinion especially if you liked Black Panther. It's also been nominated for best pictures as well as a bunch of other things.
If you can find them, go for it, Namor and Black Bolt are fairly easy to find. I've been many Nakias and you can get Black Panther and Erik Killmonger online for less than $20 and maybe even at Best Buy. Good luck to Black Panther with the Oscars and Wakanda forever!
